First Profession of Vows

We are happy to share that on Saturday, September 17 (the Feast of the Stigmatization of St. Francis), Sister Veronica Mary of the Wounds of Christ pronounced her First Vows as a Poor Clare Nun!  At the Profession Ceremony, which took place following the Homily during the Holy Mass, and before her family and friends, Sister Veronica received the black veil of a Professed Nun.  She exchanged her Novice cord for one that has four knots symbolizing her Vows of Poverty, Chastity, Obedience, and Enclosure.  And she received both the Rule of Mother St. Clare and her Franciscan Breviary.  We rejoice with Sister Veronica as she joins the ranks of Professed Contemplatives, who have offered themselves with Christ to the Eternal Father to pray and sacrifice for the entire world.

A Year Later

010It is hard to imagine that an entire year had passed by without us seeing Sr. Veronica.  We have enjoyed her letters and the photos of her that were posted on the Poor Clares’ blog.  It was with much joy that we were able to visit our dear Sarah in October.  She is doing well and as you can see, is very happy and joyful!  We were able to fill her in on the changes taking place in our family.  She could not believe how tall her siblings had grown!  It was a relaxing visit, and we are very grateful to the Sisters for permitting us to stay in the guest rooms at the monastery.  Once again we were “locked in” behind the walls of the cloister at night, safe and sound, sleeping very close to Our Lord, ever-present in the chapel.  We wish that we could have risen at night to join the Sisters in prayer, but alas we were tired from our journey, not up for the challenge.  It is a comforting feeling knowing that the Sisters faithfully pray for the world, day and night, while we lay people go about our daily tasks.  The Sisters are now entering into the Liturgical Season of Advent (a bit earlier than the rest of the Church).  Please continue to pray for Sr. Veronica’s vocation, as she is still a “baby nun” and has quite the distance to go before making her final vows.

Introducing…

Sister Veronica Mary of the Wounds of Christ!

Sarah Investiture Crucifix

Sarah’s investiture on October 7, Feast of the Holy Rosary, was so beautiful!  She was surrounded by her parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends from college. It was certainly a memorable day. Thank you to all who have prayed for Sister Veronica. Please continue to keep her in your prayers during this next year of formation. She will not be able to receive any visitors, but will be able to write when time allows.  Other photos from this memorable day follow.  Also, here is a link to a biography of the saint who is Sarah’s new patron:

Investiture Date

We have exciting news to share!  The Poor Clare community has approved Sarah’s petition to receive the Holy Habit.  Mother Abbess has set the date for October 7th, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, which, incidentally, is also Sarah’s Baptism day!  Not only will Sarah be receiving her new habit, but she will also be given her new name.  Please continue to pray for her as this day approaches.

Our Third Visit

036

On January 14-15, we traveled down to Virginia for our third visit with Sarah.  Thanks to the generosity of our parish, we were able to take a full vanload of donated food items down to the monastery.

Sarah thanked everyone for their prayers and Christmas wishes.  She especially enjoyed hearing all the wedding and new baby news from her college friends!  All is going well for her.  Mother Vicaress shared that Sarah’s investiture won’t be taking place until this coming Fall.   Please continue to keep her in your prayers!

Our Second Visit

Yesterday, we returned home from a wonderful visit with Sarah.  As always, she is very happy and joyful.  We were able to bring our dog Tristan this time.  Sarah was very happy to see him again and she let him lick her face through the grill!

As a reminder, if you write Sarah before November 1st, she will be able to receive your letters.  If you write after that time, she will get your letters at Christmas since November 1st is the beginning of the Poor Clares’ Advent.  Sarah continues to pray for everyone and is thankful for any prayers sent her way.
